Welcome to Steele Elementary School!

A message from our principal, Mrs. Rochelle Streeter

I continue to feel blessed to be a part of Galesburg CUSD #205, and especially the Steele Family.  Having seen our teachers in action every day for a few years, I can clearly see why the reputation of our teachers is excellent!  I have also come to know that all our other staff members - custodians, kitchen staff, secretaries, program attendants and instructional aides - are just as dedicated, caring, and student-centered.

We as a staff have high expectations of our students, academically as well as behaviorally.  We work together to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for students so that they may learn to their true potential.  We look forward to you, parents and guardians, being partners with us as we all work to support your children's growth.  You can do this by supporting our behavior expectations, checking on your children's homework, reading to your children or having them read to you every day, and contacting your children's teachers and me if you have any concerns or questions.  If we all work together, we can make this another terrific year!

If you wish to be even more involved, I know that the PTO is looking for volunteers to help with events that they will sponsor throughout the year.  They are also looking for more parents to become part of the organization’s Board.  If you are interested, please let me know so that I may pass on your name to the PTO.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Streeter

Steele has a long history as an Illinois Spotlight School!  In 2008, Steele was once again "Fully Recognized" by the Illinois State Board of Education as making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  We are proud of our students and continue to encourage ever-higher achievement.

We are very proud to have been named an Illinois Spotlight School; it means that all our efforts throughout the school year pay off by having our students meet and exceed standards set by the State of Illinois.  We cannot rest on our laurels, however, as the targets for meeting and exceeding standards continue to increase.

We will continue to work towards the goal of having our students meet and exceed standards.  But we cannot do it alone!  You, as parents/guardians, must continue to encourage your children to do their best in school, adhere to rules and expectations, and to DREAM BIG!

Hard work, effort, and persistence are the true keys to success!

There is an old saying that still rings true today:  "Failing to plan is planning to fail."

I want to instill in all our students the belief...and eventual reality...that each one of them CAN go to college and become whatever they Dream they can be!  One thing I have learned is that if the will to do something is present, a way will be found to accomplish that goal.

PTO News:  The next meeting will be held on February 1st at 6:00 PM in the Steele School Library. Everyone is welcome!
